If resetting the PC drum counter does not resolve the problem, please contact Dell Technical Support.
If a known-good drum does not resolve the problem, reset the PC drum counter. If the known-good drum works, please contact Dell Technical Support. If the page count is less than 30000, swap with a known-good PC drum. If the test page does not print, or the page count is greater than 30000, a replacement PC drum kit will need to be purchased. If the PC drum has not been recently replaced, press and release the Continue button to print a test page, and check the page count. The POST process is completed when the printer begins emitting a fan noise and the rollers start, then stop. Wait for the printer to complete the POST process. Turn the printer on and close the front cover. Disconnect the power cable, wait 10 seconds, and then reconnect the power cable. Turn the printer off using the power switch on the back, and then open the front cover of the printer. The Continue, Ready/Data, Toner Low, and Load Paper lights should be lit. Hold the Cancel button until all of the lights flash in sequence, and then release the Cancel button. Reset the PC Drum Counter for the Dell Laser Printer 1710(n) / 1720(dn). Turn the printer off using the power switch on the back, wait 10 seconds, and then turn the printer back on. Press and hold the Continue button until the lights all begin flashing in sequence, then release the Continue button. The Toner Low light should be the only light on (if not start over at step 1). Press the Cancel button 4 times (slowly). When the lights stop flashing and the Error light is lit, close front cover. Hold the Continue button until all of the lights flash, and then release the button. 
Hold the Continue button and turn the printer on. Turn off the printer using the power switch on the back. Reset the PC Drum counter for the Dell Laser Printer 1700 or 2230d:. A limited range of middle grays flattened some images and created excessive shadows in another, but the output still looked better than the harsh images we see from most monochrome lasers.Notice: Resetting the PC drum's counter without replacing the drum may damage the printer and void the warranty. On the Mac, a complex PDF file containing text, finer graphics, and photos emerged at a middling speed of 4.2 ppm, while a page of snapshot-size photos and color bars printed on the PC popped out in the equivalent of a zippy 14.1 ppm. This package includes one black laser drum kit.
